This summer back or side stroke your way to the Pequannock Township Public Library’s
Summer Reading Program. This event is part of the 2010 New Jersey Statewide
Collaborative Reading Program: “Make A Splash Read!” The Children’s Staff will don their
coaches’ caps and encourage children* ages 2 to 14 to dive into books. All children can
enter the Sunny Seaside Beach Club located in the Children’s Department, beginning
Saturday, June 19, from10:30 am to 3:00 pm, and become a Swimming Pal. Register
for Diving/Reading Lessons with one of the Coaches: Deep Sea Dan, Beachcomber Betty,
or Seashore Sally. Select a free summer “Beach Book”** courtesy of the
Friends of the Pequannock Township Public Library. Join Seashore Sally (aka Miss Paula) at the
Discovery Cove from 10:30 am until 3:00 pm, get a Funny Fish Tattoo, create a
Seahorse Sponge Painting, Under the Sea Sun Catcher, and Sunny Sunglasses.
Each Swimming Pal will receive their Swimmer’s Log. Submerge yourself in books,
craft activities, games, and other special reading programs involving water and undersea
creatures. You will meet a scuba diver, go fishing, build a sand castle, pretend to be a
pirate or a mermaid, and go to a luau. Embark on Weekly Deep Sea Adventure Games.
Read and earn Diving Stickers and have a chance to win Weekly Seashore Coupons. You
can also participate in our Seaside Activities. When you have completed your required
reading, you will earn a “Made A Splash” Reading Certificate and a chance to win a
Starfish Grand Prize.
Each Swimming Pal that completes this program will be invited to our Beach Party
Reading Celebration, play Boardwalk Games, and see John Carlson perform his “Splash
Into Reading Magic Show” on Thursday, August 19, from 1:00-3:00 pm, at Holy Spirit
Parish Center***.
*The 2010 Summer Reading Program is open to all residents of Pequannock Township or students
attending schools located in Pequannock Township.

Salty Sea Tales
Summer Storytime
In person Summer Storytime Registration for Pequannock residents will begin Wednesday,
June 23, 2010 at 9:00 am for Daytime Sessions and at 7:00 pm for the Evening Session, in the
Children’s Department. All registrants must provide a valid Pequannock library card and an I.D.
with proof of Pequannock Township residency. The age of the child at registration will determine
their program placement. Children must be of age at time of registration.
Children 3 months to 7 years of age are invited to participate in our four week “Salty Sea Tales” Summer Storytime Programs held on Thursdays in July, from the 8th to the 29th.
Each week young Beachcombers will listen to stories, learn about amazing sea creatures, and take home a craft.

Make a sandcastle you can eat and listen to stories about the beach.
We’ll spread a beach blanket to sit on while we have some summer fun!

Wednesday, June 30 – Seashore Symphony – Grades K – 2
Be a part of the Seashore Symphony. Bring along your beach towel,
listen to sea, sand and surf stories. Decorate a “Sea Shell Shaker,”
sing beach songs, and play musical towels with Symphony Conductor,
Mrs. Ann Marie Finnen.
Session 1: 2:00-2:45 pm. Session 2: 3:00-3:45 pm.

JULY
Wednesday, July 7 – Ollie The Octopus – Ages 3, 4 & 5
What underwater creature swims in the ocean and has eight arms?
Listen to a story about Ollie and create an Octopus Puppet Pal.

Tuesday, July 13 – Deep Sea Diver – Ages 4 – Up
Come exploring with Scuba Diver, Lorraine Riscinti, from Blue Water
Divers. Take a closer look through pictures to experience the breathtaking
beauty of the underwater world and the sea creatures that live there.

Wednesday, July 14 – Fantastic Sea Creatures – Grades 3 - Up
Have fun cutting and folding paper to create your own menagerie
of underwater sea creatures.

Dive into Barnacle Bay and enjoy a whale of a tale. Create
a SpongeBob Clam Shell underwater craft sensation, too.

Monday, July 26 – Some Cool Crabs - Grades 2 - 4
When the tide comes in - that is when the critters come out!
Join Art Teacher, Mrs. Christine Roderio, by the water’s edge, listen
to a story about a “Clumsy Crab,” and create a “Crabby Mobile.”

Tuesday, July 27 – LEGO Beach Scenes – Grades 2 – 5
LEGO builders bring your own LEGO blocks, choose a library sea
creature, and design an aquarium or pool to house your new pet.

Wednesday, July 28 – No Place Like Home - Ages 3, 4 & 5
Join us on the ocean floor; listen to a tale about a hermit crab looking for
his ideal shell. Decorate a Door Hanger that is perfect for your room.

AUGUST
Tuesday, August 3 – Water Fairy and Pirate Ball - Ages 3, 4, 5, 6
Ahoy Mates! Join Mrs. Heidi Robak from The Happy Dance, LLC.
Dress up like a water fairy or a pirate for an imaginative deep-sea
adventure. Capture this moment by creating a memorable picture frame.
Session 1: 2:00-3:00 pm. Session 2: 3:30-4:30 pm. Limited to 15 Children.
Wednesday, August 4 – Olympian Fun – Grades 3 - Up
Welcome to Camp Half-Blood for an evening of fun. What cabin will
you be placed in? Test your knowledge of Rick Riordan’s book “The
Lightning Thief” by correctly answering questions during the “Lightning
Round.” All demigods will enjoy snacking on special “Blue Treats.”
7:00-8:00 pm. Limited to 40 Campers.
Tuesday, August 10 - A Shore Treat – Grades 1 - Up
Cake Designer, Mrs. Valerie O’Connor, will be on hand to guide our pastry
decorators as they transform scrumptious treats into summer sculptures.

Wednesday, August 11 – Tropical Luau - Ages 3 - 7
Aloha… wear your favorite bathing suit and join Dancing Instructor,
Mrs. Jessica Longo, for some Hula dancing fun at our Hawaiian Beach Party.
Swing and sway to hot tropical beats and then test your skills doing the Limbo.

Monday, July 12 - Game Night with ShamRock School of Music – Grades 6 - Up
Join ShamRock School of Music for a friendly “Guitar Hero” competition.
See who will be named our own Guitar Hero.

Tuesday, July 20 – Warm and Cool Beach Scenes – Grades 6 – Up
With the help of Art Teacher, Mrs. Courtney Mangarelli, who will be demonstrating
the use of oil pastels, you will create your own beach scene using
accordion fold panels that represent the warm and cool colors of the sea.

Tuesday, July 27 - Purse Party – Grades 6 - Up
Get creative! We are “putting together” our own unique handbags.
Choose your favorite color or pattern to make a cute stylish tote bag.
